The Taste Shifter is a favorite summer cocktail at CUCINA enoteca Newport Beach, originally concepted by Tucky, our bartender/mixologist. As the watermelon ice cube melts into the drink, the flavor profile changes giving the guest a “shifting” experience.

Find the recipe below to make this drink for your next summer gathering. Honey Water is a fun mixer to play with crafting your own cocktails at home. We recommend a rocks glass and a large ice cube for this cocktail.

2 oz Tequila
1 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime juice
1/2 oz Honey water*
1 each Watermelon Ice cube**

Salt rim of your glass.

Add the tequila, lime and honey water in to a mixing glass. Shake and strain into glass with 1 ice cube. Cheers.

Honey Water
Honey 1 cups
Water 1/2 cup

Add into a sauce pan and let the ingredients blend over medium heat. Let it chill before using.

Watermelon Ice Cubes
1 Watermelon
1 pint fresh Strawberries
Honey Water, to taste
3 Fresno Chile (use more to make a spicier ice cube)
1/2 cup Fresh Squeezed Lemon juice

Blend all the ingredients in a food processor and strain through a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth. Add into ice cube trays and freeze over night.
