About Our New Private Label Italian Wine

As a group of Italian restaurants and wine shops in San Diego and Orange County, we are pleased to announce a new partnership with Vignalta from Veneto, Italy. As of today, our CUCINA private label red and white wines will come from this esteemed winery in Northern Italy.

Vignalta was founded in 1980 by owner/winemaker Lucio Gomiero with the goal of making high quality Bordeaux wines. The Colli Euganei appellation, where Vignalta’s vineyards are located shares the same latitude as France’s famed wine region. Red Bordeaux varietals have since proven to thrive in this region. Colli Euganei is a vast group of hills shaped by volcanic activity near Venice. Since 1994, Vignalta produces wine in its modern winery at Marlunghe. This cellar, dug into the rock of the Colli Euganei, presents near perfect storage and aging possibilities.

Lucio Gomiero, a native of Padua, a city in Veneto, spends half of his year living in San Diego county. “The first time I entered CUCINA enoteca I felt pleasantly surprised for the well organized space and decor.  I loved the place at first sight and thought I should do something together with the person(s) behind my new favorite spot in San Diego.” We agree Lucio and we’re glad that we’re finally able to partner with you on our new CUCINA private label wines.

About CUCINA white
Chardonnay is one of the most well known and most widely planted white grape varietals. Soil and climate are able to shape the final product like nothing else. This Chardonnay is made in 100% stainless steel tanks with temperature control and 6 months lees contact to add some weight on the mid palate. CUCINA white shows flavors of ripe green apple, pear and lemon zest with vibrant acidity and a clean finish. Perfect companion for a summer aperitif but also great with salads, raw seafood and poultry.

About CUCINA red
Merlot and Cabernet varieties vines were introduced in the Colli Euganei in the 19th century, adapting very well to Vignalta’s volcanic hills. These varieties did so well, that they replaced in a short period of time, other local red varieties after Phylloxera wiped out vineyards at the turn of the century. CUCINA red is made with a blend of Merlot and Cabernet grapes and is the true expression of the Colli Euganei terroir, a nice balance between fruit and tannins, softened with four years of French tonneaux aging. It pairs with white and red meats.
